“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed and commissioned me to bring good news to the humble and afflicted” (Isaiah 61:1; AMP). This is a declaration of the fullness of the presence of God in the life of the called and the anointed.
There is a particular force that follows this declaration when made by the ministers of God with the conviction of His spirit and anointing in their lives.
One can imagine that sense of confidence and conviction with which Prophet Isaiah must have made this divine declaration followed by the promises of the mighty works the Lord is set to do through him.
There are two connected principles that define the called as captured in this verse. First, there is the Spirit of God. Second, there is the anointing and commissioning. The basis of the anointing and the calling is the Spirit of the Lord God. As the called, do you take the Spirit of the Lord God upon you for granted through the act of disobedience?
Saul was the first king of Israel. He was singled out, anointed, and commissioned to lead God’s people. But he made the gravest mistake of taking the Spirit for granted through the act of disobedience. As a result, the asked for (which is the meaning of his name in Hebrew) lost favor with God. The asked for was abandoned by the Spirit of God and tormented till his death.
The asked for was replaced and damned. May we not be abandoned by God, in Jesus name. Let us consider the life of another Saul turned Paul in the New Testament. Even though he was seen as damned before the Spirit came upon him, he never took the Spirit for granted after he was called.
Paul was obedient in fervent faith even in the face of the greatest adversity. Our Lord Jesus Christ, “though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered” (Hebrew 5:8; KJV). Obedience is an attribute that puts us in right standing with God; it puts us in accord with the Spirit of the Lord God upon us and with the anointing.
To be in right standing with God is the key to unlocking the promises of the great works He is set to do in and through us as the called. May God grant us the grace of obedience to be in right standing with Him, in Jesus Name. AMEN.
You will have good success this 2019.
Remain blessed.
Shalom.
