From Our Pastor's Desk
The Caleb Spirit was the Spirit of TOTAL obedience. Numbers 32:12 – “Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD” In Numbers 14:24, God testified of Caleb – “But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it”
What a testimony! So often we follow the Lord mostly, or when it suits us. But when things get tough, and we must lean on faith rather than sight, we balk, fear sets in, and we follow our fears instead of our faith.
There is a spirit of disobedience in the world. Ephesians 2:2 “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience”
Due to no fault of his own, Caleb was forced to wander in the wilderness for forty years. He suffered because of the faithlessness & disobedience of the children of Israel.
Through all this, Caleb never blamed God but simply trusted God and waited for the day when he would be allowed to cross over to the Promised Land. And that day came. Joshua 14:12-13 – “Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance” The steadfastness of Caleb's commitment to God during these troubling (and wasted) years is a great testament to the character of the man, which is summed in one phrase, "different spirit".
We too must possess a "different" spirit in order to be pleasing to God. We must come to grips with the fact that we are not like everyone else. May the “different” Spirit of total obedience, rest more upon us, in Jesus Name. Amen.
You will have good success this 2018.
Remain blessed.
Shalom.
